February 11, 1926 - December 14, 2012

W. E. Boyd, Jr., age 86, of Iredell, passed away Friday evening, Dec. 14, 2012, at his residence after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in the Mitchell Cemetery in Iredell.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M., Sunday, Dec. 16, in the Lawson Funeral Chapel where a memorial video will be shown.

W. E. was born Feb. 11, 1926, in Iredell, Texas. He was a son of the late William E. Boyd and Annie E. Strickland Boyd. W. E. was raised in Iredell where he graduated from high school. He served with the U. S. Army from 1944 until 1945, when he was honorably discharged due to injuries received in combat. He received a Purple Heart and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with 1 Bronze Star.

Upon his discharge, he returned to Iredell and married LaMona Joyce Low on March 31, 1950 in Iredell. The couple had lived in Iredell all their married lives. W. E. was the Postmaster for Iredell from 1959 until his retirement in 1982. Also during that time, he was the carrier for the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram. He was a member of the Iredell V.F.W. and the Disabled American Veterans and was also a member of the Iredell First Baptist Church.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Texas Disabled Veterans Association, P.O. Box 4023, Bergheim, Texas, 78004.

He is survived by his wife, LaMona Boyd, of Iredell; children, Billy Boyd of Iredell, Linda Graves of Georgetown, Larry Boyd and wife, Lezlie, of Tyler, Lowell Boyd and wife, Kathy, of Georgetown, and Max Boyd of Iredell; grandchildren, Christopher Graves and wife, Alison, Amy Graves Schroeder, Bryan Boyd, Hunter Boyd,Tucker Boyd, Max Boyd, Jr. and wife, Misty, Leslie Boyd Mobley and husband, Dillon, Cassie Salyer Howard and husband, Jason; great-grandchildren, Alaina Graves, Carter Graves, Landon Schroeder, Preston Schroeder, Jade Howard, Jack Howard, and Gavin Boyd.
