Allen Levi Monroe

May 13, 1943 — Oct 29, 2026

Brazos Point, Texas

Allen Levi Monroe was born on May 13th, 1943, in Moro, Arkansas, and passed away October 29th, 2026, in Brazos Point, Texas, at age 83.

Born into a family of farmers, Allen loved the land. After college, he was commissioned into the United States Marine Corps, whose birthday he joyously celebrated annually. He rose through the Corps, eventually attaining the rank of Captain. Captain Monroe flew helicopters over the jungles of Vietnam, and is remembered fondly by those who served both with him and under him. In Vietnam, he gained his first nickname, “Big Al.” On returning from the war, he was blessed with two sons, Dallas and Mark, whom he loved dearly. Big Al worked first for Ryder Trucks, a position he credited with cementing his commitment to hard work. He entered the funeral car business, and eventually founded Delta Bail Bonds, one of the largest bail bonds agencies in the State of Texas. Big Al gave everyone he could find his signature white T-shirt, emblazoned with the phrase, “Delta Bail Bonds…Bounty Hunter.” Friends, family, and strangers wore them with pride, and they started many rich conversations. He continued rice and soybean farming at his homeplace in Moro, Arkansas, ranching at his beloved Loma Linda Ranch, near Paluxy, Texas, and finally at the Top Shelf Ranch, near Brazos Point, Texas.

Big Al loved his family and friends dearly, particularly Sandy, the love of his life. They were married September 7th, 1990, and remained by each other’s side until the very end. He would do anything, for anybody, at any time. His laugh was loud, his handshake was strong, his will was unshakable, and his heart was huge. This particular heart was unique, for sure, having the consistency of melted Blue Bell ice cream, with which his belly was always full. He never met a problem that he wouldn’t try to solve; that solution frequently just required a bigger hammer. Big Al had faults, like everyone, but his biggest was his overwhelming generosity. He would always lend a hand and fill a pocket without hesitation. He bought more cars, for more people, at more times, than anyone else in known history. He was always present, and always the first to act. He led from the front.

Big Al’s final nickname, and the one he cherished most, came with the birth of his grandchildren. From that point forward, to those who loved him most, he would be Po. Po was so proud of his grandchildren, and turned his ranches into beloved family playgrounds. Ponds outfitted with diving boards were stocked with fish, zip lines were installed, ATV trails cut, shooting ranges developed, and petting zoos were built. Along with the cattle, goats, chickens, and llamas, even a buffalo was brought to the ranch. Ranch time with Po was magical for the kids, and he loved them all dearly. These times were certainly formative for all. Nights were spent on the porch with his famous Loma Linda Cocktail in hand, a recipe that remains a closely guarded secret, but really was just a product of whatever he could find at Brookshire’s that week.

Po is survived by Sandy, his beloved wife of over 36 years; son Dallas Monroe; son Mark Monroe and wife Ashley; stepdaughter Amy Burt and husband Randy; stepson Bruce West, Jr, and wife Maribel; grandchildren Grace, Gabe, Hannah, Nathan, Bruce, Luke, Lauren, Tristan, and Avyanna; brother Charles Monroe and wife Sharon; sister Myritha Mitchell; brother James Monroe; sister Gail Clark and husband Walter; sister Sharon Ward, with many nieces and nephews, and even more dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hershel and Evadoice Monroe, and sisters Brenda Carpenter, Barbara Eddleman, and Linda Clark.

Po may have had a shell of iron, but inside beat a heart of pure gold. He will be woefully missed by all, and his 10EEEE shoes will never ever be filled.

We all love you, Po.
