Alma B. Hickox age 94, of Morgan, Texas passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016 at a Cleburne nursing facility.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian, Texas. Visitation was one hour prior to the funeral service. Officiating was Rev. Dewaun Ashley. Interment was in the Morgan Cemetery, Morgan, Texas. Mrs. Hickox's pallbearers were Danny Holladay, David Doss, Rick Malone, Glenn Wilson, Ray Dubois, and Barry Rankin.
Alma was born on November 15, 1921 to James Wilburne Burnett, Jr. and Alma Thetus McNeely Burnett in the Fort Graham Community in Hill County, near Whitney, Texas. She was raised in Hill County and graduated from Morgan High School in 1939. On September 26, 1939, she married T.H. Hickox in Walnut Springs, Texas. Mr. Hickox preceded her in death in 1987. Alma was a talented upholsterer and had an upholstery shop in Morgan, Texas for 25 years. Alma and T. H. raised their family in and around Bosque County. Alma was a tireless volunteer for many causes in Bosque County and was recognized many times for her community spirit. Often, when an improvement was needed, such as a new senior service/community center, or organizing a food bank, Alma found a way to earn the funds and complete the projects. She was a current and faithful member of the United Pentecostal Church in Cleburne, Texas.
She is survived by her three children: one daughter, Frances Curtis and husband, Leon, of Fort Worth; two sons, Leon Hickox and wife, Karen, of Rio Vista and James Hickox and wife, Patsy, of Abilene; two sisters, Jeanette Walker and Inita Mitchell of Mississippi; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous, nieces, other relatives, and a host of friends.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, James Wilburne Burnett, Jr. and Alma Thetus McNeely Burnett; her husband, T. H. Hickox; sisters, Johnny Ruth Coughon and Maureen Burkhaulter; and brothers, Fred Burnett, Delta Burnett, and Orvelle Burnett.
