Anita J. Griffin Armstrong, 83, a longtime resident of Meridian, Texas, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016 in Waco, after a lengthy illness. Funeral services for Mrs. Armstrong will be held on Monday afternoon, August 22, 2016, at 2:00 P.M., in the Meridian First United Methodist Church with the pastor, Rev. Daniel Hawkins and Rev. Richard Creech officiating. There will be no visitation.
Anita J. Armstrong was born September 10, 1932 in Dallas, Texas to Lawrence Griffin and Ula Lee Climmer Griffin. She attended schools in Dallas and after graduating from high school she attended college. In 1952 Anita married Allan Anson Armstrong in Dallas, where Allan worked for a bank. In 1953 the young couple moved to Meridian, Texas where they made their permanent home, and Allan worked as a Supervisor for the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, retiring in 1990. Anita and Allan became very faithful members of the Meridian First United Methodist Church, actively participating in Sunday School classes, all church activities and functions, and especially choir. Anita loved music, could play the piano (she especially loved playing for Vacation Bible School) and could contribute admirably to a choir with her strong alto voice.
Mrs. Armstrong is survived by her daughter, Christi Armstrong, of Meridian; and a host of friends.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Allan Anson Armstrong, on September 14, 1993; twin daughters, Alice Marie and Ann Jeannine Armstrong, on September 23, 1966; and also by her parents, Lawrence and Ula Lee Griffin.
Memorials may be made to the Meridian First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 334. Meridian, Texas, 76665.
