Betty (Betsy) Jean Ferris Cooper

December 9, 1931 – July 8th, 2025

Betsy Cooper passed away peacefully at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Hillcrest in Waco after having a severe stoke at Williow Park Rehabilitation facility in Clifton where she had lived for the past few years.

Betsy was born to Lincoln and Frances Ferris in the home on their Womack area farm which has been in the family since 1867. She was the tomboy of the family constantly playing outside and helping Lincoln with daily chores while her older sister, Hazel, helped Frances with work in the home. Betsy had stories about riding her horse Smokey and climbing up on the top of one of the barns to look out at a huge red barn on a neighboring ranch. She attended grade school at the Garnerville Community School adjacent to the family farm. She began attending Meridian School when she was in the 7th Grade, often staying in Meridian with her beloved Grandmother Platt. She met the love of her life, Kenneth, at the Meridian skating rink when she was only 15 years old and they dated for two years before being married on September 3, 1949. She and Kenneth were married in the rock house on the farm built by her parents and grandparents in 1938. After giving birth to Debby and Jimmy, she worked as Kopperl school secretary during the 1960’s. She became a full-time home keeper in 1967 when Kenneth became Meridian School Principal. Following Kenneth’s retirement, the Coopers traveled in their motor home for several years, visiting 27 states during this time and enjoying fellowship with many friends. Betsy and Kenneth celebrated 65 years of marriage on September 3, 2014 with Kenneth passing away on December 13th of the same year.

She is survived by her daughter Deborah and her husband Gerry Kuennen of Southlake; son Jim Cooper and his wife Robyn from their home on the San Bernard River near Brazoria. She also leaves a grandson, Califf Cooper and his wife, Celeste; granddaughter, Ashley and her husband, Ben Meggs; great grandchildren, Bryant, Coralyn, Beckett, Bennett and little Cooper, all from Houston.

The family would like to thank the excellent 6th floor staff at Baylor Hillcrest hospital in Waco. At Mrs. Cooper's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Her concern was always for her beloved family and she felt the emotional distress would only add to their pain. Following cremation her remains will be interred alongside those of Kenneth at the Cooper family plot in the Mitchell Cemetery at Iredell.

Arrangements were entrusted to Lawson Funeral Home 254-435-2792
