Billy James McCurdy was born April 23, 1934 near Kopperl, Texas, the first-born of Lee & Vera McCurdy.  He passed from this life October 21, 2018.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P. M., Monday, October 29, 2018, at the Meridian Cemetery located on South Hill Street, Meridian, Texas.  A short visitation will be held at Lawson Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until shortly before the 2:00 P.M. graveside service.

Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Jan McBee in 2009 and his son, Brent McCurdy in 2012.  Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce Cosper McCurdy, their daughter, Beverly and her husband, Gary Shuck and their two sons.  He has five grandchildren, Danny Shuck; Dylan James Shuck; Chris McBee; Amber McBee Longfellow and Lucas James McCurdy.  Bill also has seven great-grandchildren, Braedan, Zoey, Emersyn, and Ryan Shuck; Aubrey, Carter James, and Camilla McBee.

Bill was a 1951 graduate of Meridian High School in Bosque County, Texas.  In 1959 Bill graduated from Abilene Christian College.  He served in the United States Army Medical Corp in Korea in 1955 and 1956, after which he was discharged with honors.  Bill spent most of his adult life in a career of sales.  He was a national sales manager for a company, flying all over the country, until he resigned saying "our children will grow up not knowing their father and I don't want that."  After retirement, he worked part-time for Earthman Funerals of Houston and later for Jeter Funeral Home of Friendswood for 15 years.  The McCurdy family had lived in Abilene, Dallas, Mesquite, Lubbock, Irving, and had been residents of Houston, Southbelt area since 1972.  He and his wife moved to their newly built in-law quarters in Schertz in July 2015.  They spent three years there sharing a home and making memories with Beverly and Gary.

Bill was a member of the Church of Christ and served as an elder in Houston for 13 years.  His life was filled with serving God and influencing others to do the same.  Bill had a deep love for his wife, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He was very much a family man and loved his family and home more than anything.
