It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bonnie Lou Averett, who left this world peacefully on January 14, 2026, in Burleson, Texas. Born on January 28, 1940, Bonnie was a woman of deep faith and incredible kindness, whose legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
Bonnie enjoyed a successful career as an accounting manager in the oil and gas industry and retired young. Though proud of her work, her greatest legacy was the love she gave to her family and community.
A cherished member of her family, Bonnie is survived by her beloved brother, Billy Henson, and her children, daughter Evelyn Nare and her husband Art, daughter Kathy Mercer and her husband Jack, and son Chris Johnson and his wife Wanda. Her greatest joy was her family—she raised a loving family that grew to include her grandchildren Angela, Daniel, Dustin, Jarred, Misti, and Jerrod, as well as a bunch of great-grandchildren and two handfuls of great-great-grandchildren who brought her constant happiness.
Bonnie had a heart of gold, as shown through her selfless acts of kindness. She spent countless hours crocheting blankets and hats, generously donating them to those in need, including premature babies who needed warmth and comfort. Bonnie also volunteered with the nonprofit organization Soldier's Angels, supporting troops with her unwavering spirit and compassion. Her personality shone brightly; she loved the Lord, enjoyed reading, and was an avid gamer, particularly fond of playing Zelda and other Nintendo games that brought her happiness.
She is preceded by her loving husband, Charles Averett, as well as her parents, Bill Henson and Allie Mae, and her cherished children, Jon Johnson and his wife Dawn. Bonnie is also reunited in spirit with her siblings, Bobby and Betty, in the eternal embrace of love.
The visitation for Bonnie will be held on January 17, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service starting at 11:00 AM, all at Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian, Texas. As we gather to honor her memory, we will share our stories, celebrate her life, and find solace in one another’s presence.
