Brenda Charlene Herzog

Brenda Charlene May Herzog, 85, of Clifton, Texas, passed peacefully with her family by her side to go be with her Lord and Savior on September 8, 2026.

Brenda Herzog was born on December 18, 1940 at her maternal grandparents' house in Farmersville, Texas. She and her parents soon moved to Dallas and then to Garland.

Brenda attended Garland High School, where she was an honor graduate. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, band, and was a majorette for the large drill team - The Garland Dashing Debs. Her other interests included being a member of a square dancing club who performed on television each week in Dallas. The Debs and majorettes also performed for senior citizen groups and charity organizations.

While in school, Brenda was a nominee for Homecoming Queen and Best Owl Spirit. While a senior, Brenda went to work part time where she met her boss, the love of her life, Al (A. O.) Herzog. They married March 7, 1959, 2 months prior to Brenda's graduation because Al was going to be transferred by his retail employer. Brenda graduated, however, with honors.

Al and Brenda were married 67 years and were blessed with 2 daughters, Sherie and Terri. The family grew to 6 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Each of her four granddaughters are Registered Nurses.

Brenda's work history was largely in the area of law. She worked for various law firms and for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where she was at one time named Employee of the Month from approximately 1200 employees. At one time she was one of only 113 employees in the State of Texas who was assistant to a member of the Board of Pardons and Parols.

While working for the Criminal Justice System, Brenda decided to go to college and study substance abuse counseling because of her interactions with all of the inmates suffering from substance abuse. She graduated with honors, was on the Deans List and held a 4.0 GPA with degrees in both Substance Abuse Counseling and Family Counseling. After a few years, Brenda decided to retire. However, she became community involved and was named Executive Vice President of the Clifton Chamber of Commerce, the Norwegian Capitol of Texas. She was in charge of daily activities of the Chamber and planned special events, tours, visitor activities, new businesses, ribbon cuttings, annual meetings, etc.

Al and Brenda also owned several businesses including a dry goods store, hardware store, furniture store, housewares store, gift shop, catering business, art gallery and Radio Shack.

Brenda catered special events such as weddings, anniversaries, parties and other special occasions. She often said these were her therapy because people were happy and smiling at them.

Brenda was a Christian who gave her life to Christ at an early age and married a wonderful Christian man. She loved her family, her church family, friends and pets but God was first. She was involved in many church activities and held offices, taught classes and helped serve on many committees.

She and Al also sponsored the youth groups at several churches.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Frances May and Arvie Lee May brother, Royce Wayne May, Sam Garrett and Clyde Herzog.

Brenda is survived by her husband, AI (A.O.) Herzog, Jr., her daughters; Sherie Gay Box and husband, Wes of Gulf Shores, Alabama and Terri Denise Grelle of Clifton, Texas. She is also survived by her sisters, Marsha Lee Taylor of Dallas and Sarah Dianne Garrett of Fort Worth as well as her sister-in-law, Lynda Herzog of Meridian.

Survivors also include her grandchildren Robyn Corryn Minton and husband, Randal Minton of Orange Beach, Alabama, Kiera Laine Acklin and husband Clay Acklin, of Fayetteville, Alabama, Tanner Seth Samuel Anz and wife Emmarose, of Perdio Key, Florida, and Allen Wesley Box, of Sylacauga, Alabama, Brandy Michelle Sowder of Clifton, Texas and Casey Nicole Parker and husband Dr. Josh Parker, of China Spring, Texas and seven great-grandchildren.

Celebration of life will be announced at a later date. The family will receive guests through the Bell Tower Entrance from 10:30 AM-11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton, Texas with services to follow at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Lutheran Sunset Ministries, Hospice Sunset, Goodall-Witcher Hospital or Charity of your choice.
