Charles Burns

Charles Wayne Burns, age 83, of Kopperl, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Garnet Hills in Wylie, Texas.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the Kopperl Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Monday, September 19, 2016 at the Kopperl Baptist Church. Interment will be at the Kopperl Cemetery with military honors and Masonic Rites. Dr. Tom Henderson and Rev. Michael Martin will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Orval Rice, James Day, Jeff Day, Wayne Young, Terry Burns, Robert Bachhofer, Eddie Norton, and Jeff Bachhofer. Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Wheeler and Matthew North.

Charles Wayne Burns was born in Brazos Point, Texas on March 22, 1933 to Claude A. and Bonnie Baker Burns. Charles graduated from Kopperl High School in 1950 and continued his education at Tarleton State College for two years and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Sam Houston State University in 1954. Charles was drafted into the U.S. Army after graduating and served a tour of duty in South Korea. After he was discharged, he worked for General Dynamics (Lockheed). He later joined the teaching staff at Kopperl and taught Agriculture until his retirement after 28 years of dedicated service. Charles loved to fish! He enjoyed helping students, friends, and neighbors with their livestock. He was also a Mason, a member of the fraternal organization of Freemasonry. Charles was married to Sue Williams on January 22, 1961; they were married for 55 years.

Charles is survived by his wife, Sue Williams Burns of Kopperl; daughters, Dena Day and husband, Eugene, of Cleburne, Lisa Christian and husband, Patrick, of Garland; siblings, Jerry Burns and wife, Joyce, of Farmers Branch, Cynda Kay North and husband, Don, of Carrolton; grandchildren, Jacob, Emily, and Nicholas Christian, Taylor, and Brooke Day; nephew, Terry Burns and wife, Liz, of Farmers Branch, Matthew North, and wife, Vicki, of Bear, Delaware; niece, Christina Keeney and husband, Thomas, of Bastrop; many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Bonnie Burns; and a nephew, Jay Burns.

Charles was one to have "never met a stranger" and could easily talk to anyone. Known by so many names, Charles Wayne, Mr. Burns, Mr. B., Booger Red, Uncle Charlie, Daddy, and Paw Paw. We will miss you.
