Clark Purcell

Clark D. Purcell, age 78, of Meridian, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014, in Waco, Texas.

Graveside services were held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, April 4, in the Clifton Memorial Park Cemetery, with Rev. Richard Creech officiating. His pallbearers were Jim Carpenter, Walter Malott, Todd Hyatt, Justin Allen, Joe Staley, Justin Gann, Corey Powell, and Roger Garza.

Clark was born October 31, 1935, in Spur, Texas. As a small child, he and his parents moved to Dublin, Texas, where he was raised and educated. Clark enlisted in the U. S. Navy and while stationed in Norfork, Virginia, he met and later married Sandy Cartwright. After his tour of duty, he and Sandy moved to Dallas where he worked as a draftsman. In 1979, Clark and Sandy moved to Meridian. He and his late brother, Joe, joined with their father, Eugene, forming Purcell and Sons Contracting. They built bridges and later water treatment plants. After the death of Eugene, the brothers began Purcell Contracting, continuing the family business. He had served on the Meridian I.S.D. School Board for several years and was a member of the Meridian First Baptist Church. Clark was a man of many talents. He was a draftsman by trade and applied his skill and talent to his enjoyment of watercolor painting and wood working, especially after his retirement.

He is survived by his wife: Sandy Purcell of Meridian, sons: Chad Purcell and wife, Gayla, of Meridian, Thad Purcell and wife, Misty, of Waco, grandchildren: Morgan Purcell, Sydney Purcell, Kyler Gray, Kelan Gray, Kloe Purcell, Karsten Purcell, Korah Purcell, and Kaleb Purcell; sister: Anita Vinson and husband, Darrell, of Granbury; sister-in-law: Nell Purcell of Meridian; nieces and nephews: Scott Vinson, Tracee Vinson, Wayne Vinson, Mark Vinson, Kris Shipman, Kelli Purcell, Kasey Shipman, and Chelsea Shipman.

Mr. Purcell was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Irene Purcell; son, Brad Purcell; and his brother, Joe Purcell.
