Deborah Kaylen Caughron

Deborah Kaylen Caughron, born Deborah Kaylen Petty, passed away peacefully with her loved ones by her side on September 13, 2026, in Waco, Texas. She was born on October 15, 1954, in Meridian, Texas, and will be remembered as a woman whose heart was centered on family, love, and the quiet, faithful care she gave so freely to those around her.

Deborah was a homemaker, and she made that role a beautiful calling. She loved everyone, was kind, caring, and generous, and never met a stranger. She loved babies dearly and carried a heart of gold. Her laid-back personality, fierce protectiveness, and deep love for others left a lasting imprint on the people who knew her best. Her giggle was contagious, and she loved to laugh, bringing warmth and ease wherever she was.

Her greatest pride was her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandbaby were the center of her world, and she never missed an opportunity to be there for them. She treasured having the family together for the holidays, and Christmas was her favorite time of year. One cherished family memory was how, when Scotty was serving in the military and could not make it home for Christmas, the decorations stayed up until May so he could return and celebrate with everyone. That devotion to keeping family together for every possible occasion was so very Deborah.

She showed her love in countless tender ways. She was there in the delivery room with Kaylen, determined to be present as her babies had babies. She warmed clothes in the dryer before her loved ones got dressed, made hot chocolate for those she cared for, and shared a special unspoken bond with Leshia, communicating through memes and funny videos that said all that needed to be said. She loved her dogs, loved watching her shows, and enjoyed doing diamond art and cross-stitching. In so many simple, meaningful moments, she made home feel comforting and full of love.

Deborah’s legacy lives on in the family she cherished so deeply. All of her grandchildren carry something of her with them—her smile, her heart, her hugs, her love for others, her laid-back spirit, and her fierce protectiveness. That living reflection of her is among the most beautiful gifts she leaves behind.

She is survived by her daughter, Leshia Caughron; her son, Scotty Caughron, and his wife, Shelly; her daughter, Kaylen Caughron; her grandchildren, Samantha Caughron, Cierra Caughron, Nathan Caughron, and Tyler Caughron; and her great-grandchild, Lyla Calvillo, who was her world. She also leaves behind the many memories, traditions, and expressions of love that will continue to comfort her family in the years ahead.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Caughron; her mother, Hattie Petty; her father, Clarence Petty; her sisters, Laverne Williams, Irlene Hinds, and Virginia “Buttercup” Ratliff; and her brothers, Russell Petty and Richard Petty.

A graveside service for Deborah will be held on September 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Morgan Cemetery, County Road 1120, Morgan, Texas 76671.

Deborah will be remembered for the way she loved—fully, warmly, and without hesitation. Her family was her proudest accomplishment, and the love she poured into them will remain a lasting blessing.
