Donald James Trester, lovingly known as Don to all who had the honor of knowing him, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, in Meridian, Texas, with his loved ones by his side. Born on February 27, 1956, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Don lived a life rich with purpose, dedication, and heartfelt connections that touched the lives of many.
Don's journey was marked by a profound passion for serving others, reflected in an impressive career spanning 28 years as an Emergency Medical Services professional and 11 years with the Bosque County Sheriff's Office, where he wore many hats with distinction. His credentials were sterling, having earned certifications as a certified EMS, TCOLE law enforcement officer, and SWAT team member. His pride in becoming a Lieutenant and head medic at the Sheriff's Office stood as testaments to both his skill and his unwavering commitment to protecting and caring for his community.
He was a man of boundless generosity—a soul who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. Known far and wide for his incredible spirit, Don was the biggest jokester around, delighting everyone with his playful tricks and infectious laughter. He never met a stranger, and his kindness and warmth made him a beacon of light and inspiration, especially to the children he touched while serving as a staff member at Meridian Independent School District. His passion for educating others extended beyond traditional boundaries, as he eagerly shared his knowledge of astronomy with anyone curious enough to listen.
Family was at the very heart of Don’s existence. He married the love of his life, Michele “Shelly” Trester, on March 8, embarking on 52 years of unwavering partnership and devotion. Together, they built a life filled with cherished memories—surprising Shelly with thoughtful gifts, joyful gatherings with their children Rachel Felan and her husband Buster, Ross Trester and his wife Candi, and their beloved grandchildren Jordan, Terra, Taylor, and Jaden. Don's heart swelled with happiness seeing his great-grandchildren Avery, Annie, Elisabeth, Hadleigh, Charlie, Paisley, Silas, Wesley, and Salem, each one a living legacy of his love and laughter.
His love for adventure was as strong as his love for family. Whether it was hiking through scenic trails, camping beneath star-studded skies, heading out for beach trips in the RV, or embarking on spontaneous road trips, Don embraced every opportunity to explore the world around him. Yet no matter where the road took him, his favorite destination was always home—surrounded by family, friends, music, and warmth. From campfires with song to quiet movie nights at home, to the simple joy of sitting together and sharing stories, those moments defined the essence of Don.
Don’s enduring legacy is rooted not only in his remarkable career and achievements but in the countless smiles he inspired, the hope he gave, and the love he so freely shared. He was preceded in death by his father, Ross Alan Trester, and his mother, Betty Jo Trester, yet his spirit continues to live on in the hearts of his surviving sister Sheri Davis and her husband Larry; brothers Gregg Trester, and Blake Trester and his wife Yvette; and all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on April 18, 2026, starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Meridian Civic Center, located at 309 West River Street, Meridian, Texas 76665, with a meal to follow. It will be a time for all who loved Don to come together, share stories, laughter, and tears, and remember a truly incredible man whose spirit will forever remain a guiding light.
In every way, Donald James Trester was a man who made the world brighter, kinder, and more hopeful. His laughter still echoes in the hearts of those he loved, his lessons linger in the minds he inspired, and his love endures eternally. He was, indeed, incredible—and deeply, profoundly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you kindly consider making a donation to one of Don’s preferred charities.
Arrangements were entrusted to Lawson Funeral Home, Meridian, Texas 254-435-2792.
