Dorothy "Dottie" Louise Hansen, age 92, of Cranfills Gap, passed away Monday evening, June 9, 2014, at her residence.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 12, 2014, in the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap with Pastor Joan Iker officiating. Burial was in the St. Olaf (Old Rock Church) Lutheran Cemetery near Cranfills Gap. Pallbearers were Wayne Rohne, Paul Rohne, Ernie Reinke, Bryan Davis, Gwyn Christensen, and Terry Sherman.

A visitation was held from 5 to 7 P.M. on Wednesday evening, June 11, 2014, in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel.

Dorothy was born November 21, 1922, in Chilton, Texas to Emma Tina and W. H. "Bill" Brock. In May of 1938, Dorothy graduated from Floydada High School at the age of 16. Graduation from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Galveston in 1941 was an exciting time for Dorothy and she worked at St. Mary's Hospital for several years before enlisting in the U. S. Navy in 1943. She was a nurse for nearly 3 years in U. S. Naval Hospitals before being honorably discharged from the Navy as Lieutenant (JG). It was in the service that she met Chris Morris Rohne Hansen and they married on July 27, 1946, in Lockney, Texas. While working part time as a school nurse, Dorothy went back to school and earned an A. A. Degree in Business Administration from Odessa Junior College. Later, in August, 1964, Dorothy again returned to school and earned a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Sul Ross University. While Chris was working for BP Oil Company, Chris and Dorothy was transferred to the international part of the company and lived in Chicago, Trinidad, and United Arab Emirates. They bought land in Cranfills Gap and fulfilled their long time dream to retire there. They were active members of Saint Olaf Church and participated in community life in "the Gap".

After Chris passed away, Dorothy continued to enjoy the home and lifestyle that she and Chris built for their retirement. Dorothy had a long, happy, active life until her last moments. She will be remembered for her complete devotion, first to her Savior and her church and then to the family she loved so dearly.

She is survived by a daughter, Jeanne Hansen Bayless; her son-in-law, James Everett Bayless, both of Abilene; her grandson, James Harlan Hansen Bayless, of Houston; her brother, Jack G. Brock, of Austin; and by her many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William "Bill" Brock and Emma Reinke Brock; her husband, Chris Morris Rohne Hansen; her son, Jonathan Morris Hansen; and her siblings, Harvey Brock, Ellen Brock, Carl Brock, and Tommy Brock.
