Douglas McVicker, age 75, of Riesel, and formerly of Meridian, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017, in a Temple hospital.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 4, 2017, in the Riesel Cemetery located on SH #6. His family will conduct the services. There will be no visitation.
Doug was born January 21, 1942, in Oakland, California and had made his home in Texas since 2001. He grew up in California and graduated from San Rafael Military Academy in 1959. In 1987, he married Betty (Kadlacek) Zipperlen. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy McVicker and a sister, Kathleen McVicker.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Riesel; sister, Sylvia Shorter of Burson, California; two step-daughters, Susan Herring and husband, Jamie, of Riesel, Charlene Wagstaff and husband, Russell, of Sugarland; step-son, Michael Zipperlen and wife, Lisa, of Hallsburg; 6 step-grandsons and one step-great-grandson.
Honorary pallbearers are his six step-grandsons, Patrick Wagstaff, Matthew Zipperlen, Kyle Wagstaff, Garrett Herring, Josh Herring and Taylor Zipperlen.
