Homer Ray Bruton

Homer Ray Bruton, age 88, of Meridian, passed away on Thursday evening, May 3, 2018 at his residence after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M, Sunday, May 6, 2018, in the Grace Memorial Baptist Church, 107 S Ave M. Clifton, Texas, 76634. Rev. Edward Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the Morgan Cemetery, Morgan, Texas.  Visitation will be at the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Meridian  on Saturday evening, May 5, 2018, from 5 to 7 P.M.

Serving as pallbearers are Jesus Herrada, Sr., Jesus Herrada, Jr., Pedro Perez, Fabian Enriquez, Juan Guillen and Gary Roher.

Mr. Bruton was born on April 10, 1930, in San Antonio, Texas.  He was a son of Dewey and Golden Tilford Bruton.

He served his country in the U. S. Air Force while stationed in Alaska.  Homer studied to become a teacher and eventually received his Master's Degree in Education.  He taught high school in the public sector for over 45 years, then retired and taught at TSTC in Waco.. Homer was united in marriage to Johnnie E. Cowan on January 28, 1955, in San Marcos, Texas.

He is survived by his sons, Jack and John Bruton; daughters, Dona Bowe, Parris Bruton and Jennie Herrada and husband, Jesus, Sr.; ten grandchildren, Jesus Herrada, Jr., Crystal Herrada and husband, Juan Guillen, Gabriela Herrada, Grace Elizabeth Bowe, Erika Ann Bowe, Maribel Herrada, Damian Herrada, Dulce Herrada, Alexandra Herrada and Carlos Herrada; 9 great-grandchildren;  half-sisters, Nita Jones and Sandra Mitchell; number of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Golden Bruton; his wife,the love of his life, Johnnie Elizabeth Cowan Bruton; three siblings, Dewey Lee Bruton, Rosemary  Bruton and Dona May Bruton.
