J. W. Johns, 85, of Morgan, Texas passed away early Sunday morning, March 1, 2015 at his residence in Morgan. A memorial funeral service was held at the VFW Post in Alvarado at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 14, 2014

Mr. Johns was born July 26, 1929 in Kerens, Texas to Odell Washington Johns and Cecil Flowers Johns. He joined the United States Army at a young age and retired after serving for 20 years. He later worked for a lime plant as an explosive technician. In 1964 he married Mary Pugh in Fort Worth and the young couple was blessed with five children. The Johns family had made their home in Morgan for the passed several years and were of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Johns of Morgan; children, Sharon Kay Johns of Morgan, Jimmy Lee Johns and wife, Rosemary, of Morgan, Willis Gene Johns and wife, Hiliare, of Saginaw, Wanda Lee Willingham of Morgan, and Jonathon Johns and wife, Jean, of Seattle, Washington; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen E. Kelder of Saginaw; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
