James Orval Crouch Jr.

Nov 21, 1956 — Sep 8, 2026

Meridian, Texas

James Orval Crouch Jr., affectionately known as "Buddy," passed away on September 8, 2026. He was born on November 21, 1956, in Midland County, Texas, to James Orval Crouch Sr. and Annie Nell Kelley. Buddy spent his formative years in Waxahachie, Glen Rose, and Clifton, Texas. He later joined the United States Army, proudly serving his country for a term of service.

After returning to Clifton, Buddy survived a serious automobile accident that resulted in a traumatic brain injury. Though it left him with significant disabilities, Buddy refused to let those challenges define him. Through sheer perseverance and hard work, he spent the rest of his life adapting, overcoming obstacles, and living life on his own terms.

An avid reader throughout his life, Buddy faced a difficult period in recent years when severe cataracts left him nearly blind. Following a successful surgery to remove them, he was overjoyed to regain his sight. The very first thing he asked his sister for was a Bible and a dictionary so he could dive back into reading.

Buddy was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Nell Kelley Terrell; his fathers, James Orval Crouch Sr. and Kenneth Terrell Sr.; and his brother, Roy Earl Crouch ("Foozy").

He is survived by a loving family: Daughters Phyllis Phife and husband Larry, Candace Beveridge, Callie Crouch and husband Jose Ignacio Perez-Gonzalez; Siblings Jackie Samuel Crouch, Danny Craig Crouch and wife Debra, Kenneth Terrell Jr. and wife Rhonda, Rhonda Fields and husband Kenneth; Grandchildren Kristen Rasmussen, Dylan Rasmussen, Abigail Beveridge and husband Cole Delao, Antoni Beveridge, Chance Cook, and Wesley James Bonifacio Crouch-Perez; Great-Grandchildren Parker Rasmussen, Jaxon Fuller, Alijah Fuller, Benjamin Fuller, Adriel Beveridge, Lilah Delao, Aurai Delao, and Liam Delao.

Buddy also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss his resilient spirit.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on October 4, 2026, at Fundamental Baptist Church in Clifton, Texas. The family warmly invites all who knew and loved Buddy to join them in celebrating his life.
