James was born on November 1, 1948 to Sidney Glen and Margaret Katherine McKernon Jeffcoat in Hemet, California. He worked as a Mail Sorter for the USPS.

He is survived by his children, Sandra Lewis of Allen, Brandy Caster of Colorado, John Jeffcoat of Arizona; and 3 grandchildren.
