James McGehee Jr

James Acy "J.A." McGehee Jr., passed away early Friday morning, September 4, 2015, at his residence in Godley, Texas.

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Godley, Texas on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. with Rev. Kenneth Coleman and Dr. Joseph Cathey officiating. Graveside services were held at 6:00 P.M., Sunday, September 6, 2015 at the Morgan Cemetery in Morgan, Texas. Active pallbearers were Mark Powers, Ben McGehee, Rickford McGehee, Bill McGehee, David Powers, Max McGehee, Richard McGehee, and Jimmy Wayne Greenwood. Honorary pallbearers were James Acy McGehee, V, Ryan Sanderson, Nolan McGehee, and Brayden Fisher. A visitation was held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Godley Middle School.

Mr. McGehee was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy, and had attended many reunions of LSM/LSMR veterans. His career choice and passion was in education. J. A. began his career in Mosheim, Texas as a coach, teacher, then Superintendent of Schools. He spent 12 years there and continued friendships with former students his entire life. In 1959, he moved his family to the teacherage in Godley, Texas and began 23 years of service to the schools and community as Superintendent. He retired in 1982, and worked since then recording in hand-typed documents the history of the McGehee family, his life history, and thoughts and insights he gained in his life. J. A. loved to golf, many times with family, but also was a lifetime member of the TALG-Texas Association of Left-Handed Golfers, with whom he enjoyed tournaments and friendships. He scored his only hole-in-one at the TALG State Tournament at Rockport in 1991 with his golf partner and granddaughter, Denise, as witnesses.

James is survived by his children: James Acy McGehee III and wife, Annette, of Godley, Paula Phinney and husband, Mike, of Stephenville, Charles McGehee and wife, Susan of Mosheim, Connie Barnett and husband, Douglas, of Granbury, and T. K. "Tommy" McGehee and wife, Tammy, of Gainesville. J. A. was the proud Papaw of grandchildren James Acy McGehee, IV, Paula Dee McGehee, Denise Fisher and Danny, David Sanderson and Laura, Zachary McGehee and fiancée, Tiffany Truong, Taylor Smith and Kyle, Meghan McGehee and Bryce Schuetz, Tori Shaeferling and Werner Paul. His great-grandchildren are James Acy "Ace" McGehee, V, Ryan Sanderson, Hannah McGehee, Nolan McGehee, Brynn Fisher, Brayden Fisher, and Olivia Sanderson. J. A. is also survived by his step-sons, Lee Murray and family of California and David Murray and wife of South Carolina; a step-granddaughter, Shanna Jannerone; and sister-in-law, Nadine McGehee, of Cleburne. His family also includes a multitude of nephews and nieces, and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Acy McGehee, Sr., and his mother, Frances Pearl Morris McGehee; his wife of 52 years, Helen Parks McGehee; wife of 10 years, Edie Faye Harbour McGehee; two sisters, Mildred Neely and Jimmie Ruth Greenwood; and three brothers, Harold McGehee, Willie McGehee, and Ronnie McGehee.
