Jo Ann St. Clair

Oct 8, 1935 — Sep 2, 2026

Meridian, Texas

Jo Ann St. Clair, of Meridian, Texas, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Lutheran Sunset Home on September 2, 2026. She was born on October 8, 1935, in Iredell, Texas, and lived a life marked by faith, kindness, learning, and deep love for her family and community.

Jo Ann attended Iredell Public School and continued her education at McNiess University in Lake Charles, Lousiana, and Tarleton University, where she received her Masters in Library Science. She went on to serve as a librarian from the early 1980s for more than 35 years before retiring. In that role, she did far more than care for books. She encouraged a love of reading in others, welcomed young people into the library, and took students to state competition in UIL. One of her greatest joys was seeing children come simply to spend time with her in the library, a reflection of the warmth and trust she inspired in those around her.

She was known as someone who got along well with others and truly never met a stranger. Kind, outgoing, and generous in spirit, Jo Ann loved others well. She was strong in her faith, a devoted Christian, and often led Bible studies in her home. She loved going to church, and her faith was woven naturally through the way she lived and cared for people.

Jo Ann also found happiness in life’s simple and meaningful pleasures. She loved reading books and helping others discover that same joy. She enjoyed working in the yard and tending her garden. Her home was a place of welcome and fellowship, remembered especially for Thanksgiving celebrations around her table and spirited watch parties for the Dallas Cowboys. These gatherings created lasting memories for those who shared in them and reflected the joy she found in bringing people together.

Above all, Jo Ann was proud of her family. She is survived by her children, David St. Clair and his wife, Brenda; Michael St. Clair; and Melissa St. Clair. She also leaves behind her grandchildren; Stacey Dawson and husband Everett, Matthew St. Clair, Joshua St. Clair, Samantha Stidham and husband Michael, Rebecca Black and husband Nathan, Jessica Blodgett and husband Levi, Emily McBride, Madison Smith, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Each of them carries forward the love, strength, and steady example she gave throughout her life. Her family was her proudest accomplishment, and the love she poured into them will remain a lasting gift.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Eugene St. Clair; her mother, Birdi Lee Jackson McCoy; her father, Olen Winfred McCoy; her brother, Donald McCoy; and her sister, June Norton.
