Joe Marchman

Joe Marchman, age 83, of Meridian, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at his residence after an extended illness.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 5, 2016, in the Meridian First United Methodist Church with Rev. Kevin Wilson and Rev. Richard Creech officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Walnut Springs, Texas.

Serving as his pallbearers were Houston Marchman, Joe Marchman, Jr., Sam Scholl, Grayson Phillips, Tiny Allen, Richard Norton.

Joe was born September 25, 1932, in Meridian. He was a son of the late Herschel V. and Mary Ruth Rosenquist Marchman. Joe was a graduate of SMU in 1957. He was the first city manager for the City of Plano, Texas beginning in 1958. Joe was a pioneer and developer for Plano. He created the Western Heritage Sale with Gov. John Connally, Louis Pearce, Tio Kleburg, Bobby Shelton and Bill Burford. Joe was an avid collector of historial 19th century French and British Art. He also ranched and had an award winning herd of Santa Gertrudis cattle. Joe was a member of the Cowboy Church in Stephenvile.

He is survived by his children, Houston Marchman of Spicewood, Molly Marchman of Bryan and Joe Marchman, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren, Sam Scholl of Bryan, Grayson Phillips of Bryan, Madelyn Marchman Phillips of Bryan, Sarah Marcham of Fredricksburg and Allie Marchman of Spicewood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, H. V. and Ruth Rogers Marchman; a brother, Jim Marchman.
