Josefina Valverde Ballesteros

September 16, 1945 — March 1, 2026

Meridian, Texas

Josefina Valverde Ballesteros, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, in Clifton, Texas, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on September 16, 1945, in Zaragoza, Coah., Mexico, Josefina brought light and joy to everyone fortunate enough to know her.

She dedicated many years of her life to serving as a support staff member at Meridian ISD, a role she performed with unwavering commitment and kindness until her well-deserved retirement. However, her greatest pride and joy came from her family. Raising her children was her proudest accomplishment, and the love she poured into her family was boundless.

Josefina was known for her cheerful and feisty spirit. She never met a stranger and held a nurturing and giving nature that touched the hearts of many. She had a special way of making others smile, often filling her home with laughter, warmth, and delicious food. No matter the occasion, be it a holiday or an ordinary day, if you showed up at her house, you could expect a home-cooked meal prepared with love. Her passion for cooking was matched only by her love for dancing, sewing, and, rather uniquely, collecting frogs—whether they were keepsakes or live amphibians, she cherished them all.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold her memory dear. Josefina is survived by her daughters, Letty Ballesteros and her husband Mario Ramirez, and Elizabeth Ballesteros Patlan along with her husband Jose Patlan; son Mario A. Ballesteros and his wife Lorena; daughter Rosa Barraza and her husband Miguel Barraza; son Luis V. Ballesteros and his wife Debbie; sons and John Ballesteros and Senen Ballesteros. She was a proud grandmother to 23 grandchildren and a treasured great-grandmother to 39 great-grandchildren.

Josefina is preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Mario C. Ballesteros, and her beloved parents, Esperanza Mendez Valverde and Pablo Valverde, her brothers: Roberto Valverde, Pablo Valverde, and sister Elvira Vasquez.

A celebration of life will be held in the near future, with details to be announced.

As we remember Josefina Valverde Ballesteros, let us cherish the joyful moments shared, the love she freely gave, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed, not just as a mother and grandmother but as a friend and guiding light in the lives of all she touched.

Arrangements were entrusted to Lawson Funeral Home, Meridian, Texas 254-435-2792.
