Loretta Maxine Phillips was born on August 28, 1939 in Stephenville, Texas to Clarence Weldon and Veleta Mae Dennis Phillips. She graduated from Iredell High School in 1957 and the very next month married Donald Edward Owen. After getting married the young couple moved to Fort Worth. Her first job after high school was at the Fort Worth National Bank. Don and Loretta had two children, Steve in 1960 and Shelly in 1963. Loretta worked for a janitorial supply company for a number of years. She practically ran the business doing everything from ordering, accounting and bookkeeping. She enjoyed fishing, camping and being outdoors with her children. In 1998 Loretta retired from Everman High School where she served as an aide to the counselors. After retirement Loretta and Don moved to Clifton, Texas. During their retirement years they traveled to every 254 counties in Texas and took photos of the courthouses. It took approximately 10 years to do, but they had a wonderful time doing it. Loretta was a faithful member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church near Iredell. She always thought of others before herself. She was a true treasure and will be sorely missed.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 65 years, Don Owen; daughter, Shelly Owen; sister, Reba Storey; numerous other relatives and many friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Weldon and Veleta Mae Dennis Phillips; sister, Becky Carter; and her son, Steve Owen.
