Luretha Johnson, age 93, of Walnut Springs, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at a Whitney nursing facility in Whitney, Texas.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Walnut Springs Baptist Church with Brady Dempsey and Rev. T.J. Joyner officiating. Interment followed at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Walnut Springs. A visitation for family and friends was held at the Lawson Memorial Chapel in Walnut Springs, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 14, 2015. Pallbearers were David Short, George Johnson, Trey Motley, Michael Motley, Dustin Cagle, and Jason Southard.

Mrs. Johnson was born on March 12, 1921 in Byng, Oklahoma to Virgil Cecil and Annie Fulton Fox. She was raised and attended school until the 6th grade in Oklahoma. Luretha married George Johnson on January 1, 1936 in Sulphur, Oklahoma. Luretha and George moved to Texas after getting married. Mrs. Johnson worked in the Walnut Springs I.S.D. School Library for several years.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughter: Movita McClurg of Yuma, Arizona; 6 grandchildren, Tom Howell, Carla Clark, Gregg Howell, Lisa Motley, Tina Short and George Johnson; 13 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren; number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Cecil and Annie Fulton Fox; her husband, George Johnson; a son, Monte Johnson, and a brother: Marion Fox.
