Manuel Garcia, age 80, of Meridian, passed away Thursday morning, January 23, 2014 at a Meridian nursing facility with family members by his side.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 P. M., Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Apostolic Temple Church, 107 South Hill Street, Meridian, Texas with Rev. Alfredo Montes officiating. Interment was in the Meridian Memorial Cemetery on State Highway #144, Meridian, Texas. Pallbearers were Javier Mejia, Billy Miller, Victor Suarez, Anthony Ayala, Pedro Reynoso, and Macario Lovaton.
Mr. Garcia was born January 15, 1934 in Miguel Ousas Zacaatecas, Mexico to Jose Garcia and Maria del Refugio Rivera. He was raised in Miguel Ousas Zacatecas, Mexico and went to school only to 1st grade. He worked most of his life as a laborer on turkey plantations. He was a member of the Apostolic Temple Church in Meridian.
Survivors include his wife, Cecilia Garcia of Meridian; children, Socorro Garcia of Dallas and Fermin Malacara of Dallas; step-daughters, Yolanda and Javier Mejia of Dallas, Teresa and Jaime Rangel of Farmers Branch, Cecelia Suarez of Meridian, Juanita and Billy Miller of Morgan, Esperanza Suarez of Meridian, Sonia and Jose Alvizo of Iredell; step-son, Victor and Claudia Suarez of Dallas; sister, Dolores Garcia of Mexico; brother, Jose Garcia, Jr. of Mexico; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Garcia was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Bertha Garcia and Elena Garcia.
