Marty Dan Golightly, born November 19, 1971, in Meridian, Texas, passed away on May 14, 2026, in Waco, Texas, surrounded by his loved ones. Marty’s life was marked by dedication, warmth, and an enduring commitment to his family and community.
A graduate of Huckaby High School in 1990, Marty pursued higher education at Tarleton State University before entering the Police Academy, where he distinguished himself by graduating first in his class. At the age of 28, he embarked on a career as a peace officer, a calling that became his greatest source of pride. Over the span of more than two decades, Marty served faithfully for 2 years with the Erath County Sheriffs Office, 20 years at the Stephenville Police Department, and concluded his career with the Bosque County Sheriffs Office. His colleagues and community alike recognized him for his calm demeanor and exceptional skills, especially his ability to de-escalate tense situations, a testament to his extraordinary presence and character.
Marty was a man who carried a smile that could light up any room. He shared an extraordinary social grace with his mother, Jean Ann Golightly, as both could effortlessly reconnect and engage with friends and acquaintances alike. Those who knew Marty well treasured his gentle humor and sometimes irreverent jokes, qualities that deepened the affection felt for him. His wife, Brandi Golightly, speaks fondly of their life together, expressing deep pride and love for her partner, whose absence will be profoundly felt.
Beyond his professional achievements, Marty was a dedicated family man, proud to be a loving father to his sons, Roe Golightly and his wife Caitlin, and Lane Golightly. Being a good father and a devoted son stood as his proudest accomplishments. Marty’s family circle also includes his mother Jean Ann and an extended network of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, as well as many cherished friends and co-workers.
Marty’s passions extended into his personal hobbies and interests. He found great joy in fishing, crafting metal art, training cattle dogs, and attending cattle trials at Roy Cox’s place. He was fond of helping at the ranch, working the cows, and taking leisurely rides on his Kubota as he observed wildlife. One could often find him down by the river, quietly watching people or listening to old country songs, moments revealing the tranquility and humor that defined his spirit.
Marty is preceded in death by his father, Randy Golightly; his maternal grandmother, Marguerite Wolfe, known affectionately as “Nannie Red”; his maternal grandfather, Adrian Burden; and his paternal grandparents, Woody and Delma Golightly.
Friends and family are invited to honor Marty Dan Golightly’s memory at the First Methodist Church in Meridian, Texas. A visitation will be held on May 22, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a service on May 23, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM, at the First Methodist Church in Meridian, Texas. Interment will follow at the Fairy Cemetery near Hico, Texas.
Marty Dan Golightly’s legacy remains one defined by commitment, kindness, and an unyielding sense of duty. His calm but funny presence, his love for family, and his dedication as a peace officer have left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know him. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
