Mary Ann Chatfield

Mary Ann Chatfield, née Krueger, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2026, in Clifton, Texas. She was born on March 26, 1943, in Meridian, Texas, and grew up in Bosque County, a place that remained an important part of her life and story.

Mary Ann built a life marked by care, compassion, and dedication to others. She attended Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth and became an LVN before going on to earn her registered nursing degree from McLennan Community College. Nursing was more than a profession to her; it was a calling. She served as a registered nurse and later as a nursing home state inspector, and she was known for loving to teach new nurses and for always being helpful to anyone who showed an interest in becoming a nurse. Her generosity of spirit, her warmth, and her love for people left a lasting impression on many lives.

She was also a proud military spouse, a role she counted among her greatest accomplishments. Through that life, Mary Ann traveled all over the United States, including Washington State, Oklahoma, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Tennessee, and throughout Texas, and even overseas to Germany, all while working in many different places wherever stationed. She carried herself with resilience and adaptability, embracing each new place and experience along the way.

Mary Ann had a vibrant and memorable personality. She was a jokester who told the corniest jokes, never met a stranger, and had a gift for making people feel welcome. She loved Elvis, and she delighted in the simple and creative joys of life, including traveling, scrapbooking, making jewelry, and painting with her mother. She also held onto fond and lively memories, including taking Uncle Paul’s hot rod car and rattling the pipes coming into Bosque County. Above all, she loved her boys deeply and was especially proud to become a grandmother and great-grandmother.

Her family was the center of her heart. Mary Ann is survived by her sons, Mark Chatfield and his wife Lisa of China Spring, Texas; Brent Chatfield and his wife Gale of Gatesville, Texas; Steven Chatfield of Gatesville, Texas; and Richard Norton and his wife Tammy of Meridian, Texas. The pride she took in being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was one of the defining joys of her life, and that love will continue to be felt by those who knew her best.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Chatfield; her father, August Krueger; her mother, Jessie Krueger; her sisters, Doris Krueger and Nancy Hancock; and her niece, Tina Hancock.

Family and friends are invited to remember and celebrate Mary Ann’s life during visitation on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Lawson Funeral Home, 803 N Main St, Meridian, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Lawson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Meridian Cemetery on Hill Street, Meridian, Texas.

Mary Ann Chatfield will be remembered for her laughter, her caring heart, her strength, and the way she poured herself into her family and her work. Her life was one of service, devotion, and love, and her memory will be cherished always.
