Mary Helen Kirkes, age 95, of San Antonio, passed away Saturday evening, November 7, 2015, in a Cleburne nursing facility.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 11, 2015, in the San Jose Burial Park in San Antonio, Texas. Rev. Bill Shockley officiating.

She was born in San Antonio, Texas, on May 29, 1920, where she was raised and educated. Mrs. Kirkes lived there all of her life until moving to the home of her daughter in Glen Rose and later to a care facility in Cleburne.

Mary was a Cadet Sponsor at Brackenridge High School in 1938. After attending a business college, she worked several years at a city credit union and then worked many years and retired from Civil Service at Kelly AFB in 1976.

She was a member of the Mid Thirties Alumni Assn., Eta Eta Chi Sorority, Jolly Dollar Dance Club, and Daughteres of the Nile, Alzafar Temple. She loved to dance and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the TCU Horned Frogs.

Her family and friends meant everything to her. She worked her entire life to provide her children the opportunity to obtain their college degrees and make a good life for themselves.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Victor Oran Kirkes on March 28, 2005, and her two sons, Jack Collis Bailey and Alan Oran Kirkes.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Lynn Reese and her husband, Butch, of Glen Rose; five grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
