Mary Lee Vawter, age 84, of Paradise and formerly of Iredell, Texas, passed away Saturday evening, January 28, 2017, in a Decatur hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 31, 2017, in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Meridian. Minister Ken Tinsley and Mr. Patrick Murphy will officiate. Burial in the Mitchell Cemetery in Iredell. Serving as her pallbearers will be Wesley Vawter, Monte Vawter, Seana Murphy, Keith Smith, Travis Vawter and Josh Vawter.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 P.M., Monday, at the Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian.

Mary was born February 2, 1932, in Meridian, Texas. She was a daughter of the late Obie Lee Dunlap and Alice Cosper Dunlap. She was raised in Iredell where she graduated from high school and later attended a business school in Ft. Worth. On April 29, 1950, she was united in marriage to James Earl Vawter in Ft. Worth. Mary worked as a product inspector for the Tandy Corp. for 20 years. After she and her husband retired, the couple moved to Iredell where they lived until moving to Paradise 8 years ago. Mary was a member of the Church of Christ.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Diabetic Association, P.O. Box 1454, Alexandria, VA 22312 .

Mary is survived by her husband, James Earl Vawter of Paradise; children, Barbara Massingill and husband, Don, of Iredell, Betty Smith and husband, Charles, of Ft. Worth, Mark W. Vawter and wife, Charlene, of Ft. Worth,Troy Vawter and wife, Janie, of Paradise and David Vawter and wife, Theresa, of Arizona; daughter-in-law, Brenda Vawter, of Colorado; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Pat Graves of New Mexico, Jean Davis and Jo Ogle, both of Iredell; brother, Bob Dunlap of Lubbock; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Vawter.
