Murlene Smith

Murlene Smith, age 88, of Iredell, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 23, 2016, in a Ft. Worth care facility.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 26, 2016, in the Iredell First Baptist Church with the pastor, Rev. Don Caldwell, officiating. Burial will be in the Mitchell Cemetery in Iredell. Her pallbearers will be Jason Smith, Tristin Smith, Chris Taliaferro, Will Dettenhaim, Larry Boyd and Bud Hutton.

Visitation from 6 to 8 P.M., Monday, April 25, in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel.

Murlene was born July 9, 1927, in Meridian, Texas. She was a daughter of the late Luther Fred Flanary and Lela Hanshew Flanary. She was united in marriage to John D. Smith on July 31, 1943, in Iredell, where she had lived all of her life. Murlene was a member of the Iredell First Baptist Church and was a very active member of the Iredell V.F.W. Post 8559 Ladies Auxillary until the post closure.

Memorials may be made to the Iredell First Baptist Church or the Iredell Volunteer Fire Department.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie Jo Kretzmeier and husband, Rudy, of Frisco; a son,
Johnny Smith and wife, Connie Sue, of Cleburne; grandchildren, Cheryl Taliaferro of Denton, Jason Smith of Godley and Jennifer Smith of Cleburne; great-grandchildren, Madison Taliaferro, Sam Taliaferro, Haden Smith and Jaycie Smith; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
