Roy Wesley Gosdin passed away at his home in Meridian, Texas on January 30, 2023, at the age of 92, surrounded by his loving family. Wesley was born June 15, 1930 to Roy and Grace Gosdin, at the family home outside Iredell, Texas. He attended Iredell schools graduating in 1947, after which he worked as a surveyor’s assistant preparing for the construction of Lake Whitney. Wesley enlisted in the Army in 1951, and was stationed at Fort Monmouth, Oceanport, New Jersey for basic training. He met Shirley Anne Stoever at a skating rink in Red Bank, New Jersey, and two and a half months later on February 9, 1952 they married. The newlyweds traveled by train to Texas before Wesley shipped out to Korea for six months. Upon his return the couple made their home in Iredell for several years, with a brief stay in Florida before moving back to Iredell where the couple owned and operated Community Lumber and Hardware. After purchasing the Meridian Hardware and Furniture in 1967, the family moved to Meridian. Wesley retired in 1976 from the hardware business to focus on his farming/ranching business and dirt work. Wesley was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge, and was very active in the community serving on the school board and the Meridian Chamber of Commerce. Wesley received his nine gallon pen for his blood donations to the American Red Cross. Left to cherish Wesley’s memories are his wife of almost 71 years, Shirley Gosdin; his sister, Nelda Allison of Hillsboro, and brother, Lynn Gosdin of Iredell; sons, Don Gosdin and Glenn Gosdin of Meridian, and his daughter, Patti Wagner and husband, Rodney, of Meridian; his grandchildren, Brooke Montoya and husband, Jonathan; Sean Gosdin and wife, Tiffany; Rebecca Gosdin and Amanda Gosdin; Wesley Gosdin and fiancé, Daisy Bergeron; Lindsey Morton and husband, Wade; Erin Pike and husband, Chris; thirteen great grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Meridian or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Memorial services will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, February 11, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church in Meridian. Pastors San-ky Kim and Richard Creech will officiate.
