Shirley June (Payne) Jones passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose kindness, strength, and unwavering love left an imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Born on September 14,1934 in Mosheim, Texas. Shirley built a life with her husband and soulmate, Donald Jones. Together they rooted themselves in family, faith, and the simple joys of everyday living. She found happiness in gathering with those she loved, sharing stories, offering wisdom, and making everyone feel welcome. Her home—and her heart—were always open.

For Shirley, “home” was never just a house. It was the rolling hills, familiar roads, and cherished memories of Kopperl, Morgan and the Lakeside Village community. Those places were woven into the fabric of her life and became a part of everyone she loved. She carried them with her wherever she went, and through her, generations of family came to understand that home is not simply where you live—it is where your heart finds peace.

Shirley also leaves behind the families she loved as her own. The Kimballs and the Nortons were not simply lifelong friends; they were woven into the fabric of her life through generations of shared memories, unwavering support, and enduring love. She held Bud and Darnell Kimball, Randy and Kim Norton, Rance Norton, and Randa Norton close to her heart, cherishing each of them as part of her family by choice. Their names are forever intertwined with Shirley’s story, just as they are with the stories of home, history and settling.

She was preceded in death by her father, Cicero Wayne Payne, mother Thelma Pauline Walker Payne, husband, Donald Webster Jones, sisters, Alice Jean “Peggy” Payne, Joyce Payne Moncrief, Janice Ann Payne Pruitt, daughter Frances Elaine Jones Boughton, and son Donald’s Webster “Webb” Jones Jr,.

She is survived by her granddaughter Brittny Jones of Morgan, Texas, niece Teresa (Pruitt) Franklin of Morgan, Texas, and nephew Taw Pruitt (wife Roslene) of Mabank, Texas.

A host of nieces and nephews.

Shirley will be remembered for her gentle heart, quiet strength, warm smile, her fighting spirit and the way she made people feel seen, loved, and cared for. Her legacy lives on not only in her family but also in the places she treasured, where every familiar breeze, every country road, and every sunset will carry a reminder of her enduring presence.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that love does not end with goodbye. We will carry her with us—in our stories, our traditions, and in the places and people that always felt like home.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on a later date, with burial to follow at Kopperl Cemetery.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered love, prayers, and support during this difficult time.
