Teresa Hernandez

Teresa Hernandez, 95, of Walnut Springs, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on August 28, 2025.

Teresa was born on March 8, 1930 to Fred and Maria Reyes of North Hollywood California. She was one of 15 children born to Fred and Maria Reyes. She grew up in her childhood home and stayed there until she married. Teresa attended North Hollywood High School, sang in school Glee Club, and became a governance for the actor John Sutton. She kept herself busy helping at home, stayed involved with her family and friends and loved the challenge of learning new things.

Teresa married the love of her life John Ponce Hernandez on April 22, 1950 and moved to Texas. She prided herself on raising their children Glinda and Judy while continuing to help her husband grow their business. She learned bookkeeping from a neighbor and served as the bookkeeper for their electrical business, Hines Electric until John retired around 1976 when they moved to Walnut Springs, calling that “Home.”  Teresa was also active for many years in The VFW Lady’s Auxiliary/American Legion. In later years she challenged herself to raised 4 of her great grandsons and became know throughout the Walnut Springs School as “the little grandma”.

She loved to entertain family and friends, talking and sharing memories were a favorite pastime, she was known by many for her delicious cooking and baking as well. She loved to sing and dance in the living room. Teresa’s legacy is deeply rooted in the bonds she nurtured within her family and community.

She is survived by her sisters Martha and Judy; brothers Danny, Dennis, and Artie; her beloved daughter Judy Smith; son-in-law James T. Henrise; 8 grandchildren Angelina Henrise and spouse, Elizabeth Henrise-Brackenridge and spouse, Stephanie Henrise, James Henrise, Eric Henrise, Lisa Smith, Michelle Henrise-Goad and spouse and Kathyleen Henrise-Griggs and spouse.

Great-grandchildren Johnathan Stack and spouse, Kody Stack, Neils Bonilla, Lilly Bonilla, Marcello Bonilla, Austin Brackenridge and spouse, Dillon Brackenridge, Katelyn Brackenridge, Presley Pena, James G Henrise and spouse, Candice Henrise, Aeverie Porterfield, Tyler Brashier, Skyler Brashier, Stone Henrise, Eric Henrise, Devyn Henrise, Travis Matchett, Kade Matchett, Paul Griggs, Ruby Griggs.

Great-great grandchildren: Sadie Stack, Millie Stack, Pennie Stack; Khloe Stack, Aislinn Stack, Lucas Stack; Addy Brackenridge, Lainey Brackenridge; Aspyn Banks, Wynter Banks; Ellie Crowe and Dontae Crowe.

Teresa is preceded in death by her parents Fred and Maria; sisters Virginia, Simona, Aurora; brothers Alfonso, Artie, Fred, Tommy, Victor, David; her husband John P Hernandez; great-grand daughter Blair Roze Henrise; and her daughter Glinda Henrise. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and each will continue to resonate through the love she instilled in her family. Her greatest accomplishment and source of pride was her family, who will forever remember her as extraordinary matriarch. Though she has left this earthly world, the imprint she made on the lives of those around her will never be forgotten.
