Thelma Charlene Lemons, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Clifton, Texas, on July 20, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on June 10, 1935, in Amarillo, Texas, she spent her life radiating love, grace, and joy to all who knew her. Thelma’s final moments reflected the warmth and tranquility she brought into the world—she slipped away while taking a nap and woke up in the arms of her Lord.

From her earliest days, Thelma’s vibrant spirit was unmistakable. As a child, she began dancing at Dixie Dice in Amarillo at the tender age of four, continuing this passion throughout her school years. Her poise and beauty shone brightly as she earned the distinction of Miss Amarillo Runner-Up for the Miss America Pageant in 1956. Beyond her achievements on stage, Thelma taught dancing to others and worked as a model, always sharing her talent and confidence with those around her.

Education played a significant role in Thelma’s life. She attended Amarillo High School, where she was a dedicated straight-A student. She then moved on to Amarillo College, where a single dance would change the course of her life forever. While dancing with another man, Jim Lemons gracefully cut in—a moment that would spark a deep and lasting love. They married in 1957, embarking on a journey of just shy of seven decades together, filled with love, faith, and cherished memories.

After starting their life together, Thelma continued her education at the University of North Texas, studying interior design. Her academic pursuits remained strong until the passing of her mother, Mildred Davis, in 1982. Thelma’s family always came first in her heart. Devoted to her father, Emmett Mauldin, her late sister Sharon Mauldin, and the rest of her family, she carried their love with her through every chapter.

Thelma’s proudest achievements revolved around her family and faith. In 1961 and again in 1963, she and Jim welcomed sons Randy and Barry. Her pride only grew when she became “Mom Mom” to granddaughters Sydney Marek and Sunney Bowden in 1999 and 2000. The love she had for her Lord, her family, and her church surpassed all else. Whether worshiping beside her uncle and grandfather—both preachers—or leading the women’s group at church, Thelma lived her Christian faith with unmatched devotion.

Her professional life was equally fulfilling. As the office manager of Lemons & Associates Architects, she not only oversaw operations but also lent her creative touch to interior design. Every space she touched became a reflection of her warmth and her meticulous eye for beauty. At home, she was just as talented, building a log cabin dream home with Jim on Clear Creek Ranch before moving to Clifton—a testament to the partnership and perseverance that defined their marriage.

Those who knew Thelma will vividly remember her many passions. She adored dancing—every Saturday night was cause for celebration. She found immense joy in crafting homemade cards, especially thank you notes, which embodied her thoughtfulness and creativity. Thelma always presented herself with elegance, from her carefully chosen jewelry to brightly painted nails; she brought joy to every room just by being herself.

Above all, Thelma cherished her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother. Her loved ones were her greatest treasures, and she brimmed with pride for her sons, granddaughters, and dearly loved daughter-in-law, Judy. She was easy to get along with, generous in spirit, and steadfast in her values—a beacon of strength and grace for her family.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Jim Lemons; sons Randy Lemons and Barry Lemons and wife Judy; her granddaughters Sydney Marek and husband Devin, and Sunney Bowden and husband Triston. Thelma’s passing is preceded by her father, Emmett Mauldin; mother, Mildred Davis; and sister, Sharon Mauldin. Their memories remain forever woven into the fabric of her remarkable life.

Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of Thelma’s life. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church of Clifton, 211 South Avenue G, Clifton, TX 76634. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM at the same location. Following the service, Thelma will be laid to rest at Clifton Memorial Park Cemetery, FM 1991, Clifton, Texas.
