Timothy Barnett

Timothy Wayne Barnett passed away on March 8, 2014 at the age of 52 in Houston, Texas. He was surrounded by his family in his last moments.

Memorial Services were held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 22, 2014 in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Norton officiating. Immediately following the memorial service a reception was held at the Old Meridian Library Building.

Tim was born on October 27, 1961 in Austin, Texas to Larry Barnett and Meridian native Sherry Lynn Smith Freedman and lived there until the age of 16. He was preceded in death by his parents. Every summer and holiday season he would visit his grandparents Lynn and Lester Smith in Meridian, and those special times planted the seeds that would grow into a lifetime love affair with Bosque County. He especially looked forward to watching the sunsets from the rest stop at the top of the hill.

Tim moved to Meridian during high school and developed friendships and relationships that would last a lifetime. He became known for his personality, quick wit, and good looks. He was outgoing, kind, high energy, and above all, loyal. If you were fortunate enough to be called Tim’s friend, then it’s fair to say that he was your friend until the end.

After high school Tim moved to Houston where he had family, searching for opportunity and chance to make his own mark. He met his wife Ninna , and they began to make their life together.

Tim developed a passion for film, TV and radio. He used his personality and abilities to do voiceover work and traffic reports on the radio. He used those same strengths to forge a songwriting career. He wrote, performed, and published country music. All of his works represented his love for family, friends, and childhood experiences and his beloved Bosque County. His song, “Texan By Trade,” which is available on ITunes, has been played during halftime at Houston Texans games at Reliant Stadium. It was also released on Miller Lite’s “Keep Texas Beautiful” compilation CD.

His song “The Shadow” won runner-up in American Songwriter Magazine. In 1998, he wrote the “Armageddon Song” used in Discovery Channel’s “Mega Movie Magic.” Tim has also performed at the KILT 100.3 stage at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and Sam Houston Race Park.

Tim also developed a career as a professional DJ. He took great pride in providing just the right music so that so many brides and grooms remembered their reception as one of the greatest times of their lives.

Tim is survived by his wife Ninna, son Travis, daughter Courtney and his brothers, Stephen Barnett of Meridian, and Trey Barnett of Spring along with a host of friends and extended family.
