In Loving Memory of Virginia Louise Rountree
Virginia Louise Rountree, age 69, of Meridian, Texas, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026.
Early Life and Marriage
Born on December 13, 1956, in Portales, New Mexico, Virginia was the beloved daughter of Annie Ruth Holland and Kenneth Bates, raised by Charles Hoshaw, Annie's second husband. She grew up in Venus, Texas, where she met Vernon Rountree, the love of her life. Their journey began when they married on July 26, 1974. Together, they shared 45 wonderful years of marriage before Vernon passed away due to health issues. Virginia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her family was her greatest joy, and she was a constant presence at ball games and family gatherings. Affectionately known as “Jenny Lou” by her family and as “Nanny” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Virginia touched many lives with her warmth and kindness.
Community Involvement and Career
Virginia was a familiar and cherished figure in Clifton, Texas, and neighboring communities. She played a significant role in the family business, Rountree Appliance, serving as the welcoming face of the store. Her generosity towards local charities and organizations was something that she silently adored. Her genuine care and friendly demeanor made her loved by all who met her. Even after retiring in December 2024, Virginia continued to volunteer her time at the store, as she enjoyed connecting with her loyal customers.
Personal Interests
Virginia had many hobbies that brought her happiness, including playing dice and cards, fishing, and preparing family dinners. She cherished every moment spent with her loved ones.
Family and Legacy
Virginia leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory: her children, Robert Shelton Rountree and his wife Stacie of Alto, Texas; Dantha “DeeDee” Rene Rountree and her husband John Gallagher of Parker, Colorado; Michael Allen Rountree and his wife Stefanie of Clifton, Texas; and Benetta “Lynn” (Rountree) Lamb (widowed) of Hamilton, Texas. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; her sisters Donna Allmon and her husband Butch of Meridian, Texas, and Dorothy Moore and her husband Dave of Venus, Texas; her sister-in-law Vera Rountree of Batson, Texas; her brother-in-law Tim Rider of Beeville, Texas; and her precious service canine and companion, Linda Lou, who was always by Virginia’s side. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends will miss her dearly.
Preceded in Death
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband and soulmate, Vernon Rountree; her sister Helen Rider; her brothers Charlie Bates and Sterling Bates; her mother Annie Ruth Holland; and her biological father Kenneth Bates, and father Charles Hoshaw.
