Wanda Shumake passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, at the age of 95, going home to be with her Savior and to be reunited with many beloved family members who went before her. A celebration of life will be held at Lawson Funeral Home, 803 N. Main St., Meridian, TX 76665. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2025, followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place immediately after at Oak Grove Cemetery in Walnut Springs, TX.
Born in Breckenridge, Texas, on January 19, 1930, Wanda later moved to Walnut Springs, where she graduated from Walnut Springs High School in 1947. In 1955, she made her home in Haltom City, where she spent the majority of her life.
Wanda devoted much of her career to The Salvation Army as a bookkeeper, beginning in 1975. She retired in 1997 but continued to serve part-time until 2001. Wanda was truly the life of the party. She never met a stranger and had a special way of turning everyone she met into a friend. She loved spending time with family and friends, playing cards, dominos, and words with friends. She was a member of the Birdville Church of Christ in Haltom City, Tx.
Wanda lived a long and beautiful life of 95 years. She was the proud mother of two children, Tommy Clint Oldham and Cheryl Lynn Gorick. She was blessed with three grandchildren, Melissa Anne Gaby, Adam Clint Oldham, and Cristen Leigh Whitehead; seven great-grandchildren, Kolton Clint Shedden, Keaton Christopher Shedden, Kason Michael Gaby, Christopher Edward Oldham, Brandon Clint Oldham, Chloe Elaine Whitehead, and Mila Rae Whitehead; and three great-great-grandchildren Clint Michael Shedden, Cooper Patrick Shedden, and Maylen Nicole Shedden, with another great-great-granddaughter, Leighton Anne Shedden, expected in April 2026.
Wanda was preceded in death by her son Tommy Clint Oldham; her sister Jean Tucker; her brothers Maurice, Robert, and Ben Simmons; and her parents Mark “Dee” and Loura “Mama D” Simmons.
She is survived by her daughter Cheryl and husband Chad; grandchildren Melissa and husband Shawn, Adam and wife Robin, and Cristen and husband Sean; along with her great-grandchildren Kolton, Keaton and wife Lexie, Kason, Christopher, Brandon, Chloe, and Mila; and great-great-grandchildren Clint, Cooper, and Maylen. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
