William Warren MacKenzie, age 54, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Clifton, Texas, on June 26, 2026. Born on September 10, 1971, in Clifton, Texas, William—known to many as Will—touched the lives of everyone who knew him with his unwavering kindness, unrelenting spirit, and a smile that never faded, even in the toughest of times.
Will's journey through life began in his hometown, where he graduated from Clifton High School in 1990. He pursued higher education with dedication, attending Texas State University, and went on to graduate from Austin Community College in Respiratory Therapy. Then, in 2011, Will achieved his Bachelor of Science degree from Tarleton State University.
Professionally, Will was deeply committed to helping others. He devoted his career to healthcare as a member of the team at Providence Hospital in Waco, Texas, until a life-altering accident in August 2001. This horrific event marked the beginning of an extraordinary chapter in Will’s story—a story defined by endurance, grace, and faith. Miraculously surviving the accident, thanks be to God, Will spent a long time in a coma, followed by many weeks in rehabilitation hospitals. The path to recovery was daunting, but he faced every challenge with a gentle gratitude and quiet resilience. Nurtured back to some normalcy of life by his beloved Granny, Will became a living testament to perseverance. He endured much pain and discomfort due to the lasting impact of his accident, yet he never complained and was always so appreciative of the love and support around him.
Beyond his work and education, Will’s life was defined by his passions and relationships. He was a proud member of the Scottish Rite Masons (Crawford Lodge No. 585)—a symbol of his dedication to fellowship and service. Will’s love for sports ran deep in his veins: he enjoyed all athletic pursuits, but baseball was his favorite to play. A big fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, and Texas Rangers, he found immense joy cheering alongside family and friends. Being on the lake, surrounded by those closest to him, brought him peace and happiness.
Of all his accomplishments, Will’s proudest was becoming a father. The birth of his son, Sebastian, in early 2001 was a blessing he cherished above all, and special thanks are given to Robin, Sebastian’s mom, for always ensuring Sebastian knew and loved his dad. For Will, nothing brought greater fulfillment than time spent with Sebastian. The bond between them was strong and inspiring. Sebastian himself says he hopes he can be half the man his dad was—God-fearing, genuine, kind, loving, and truly the best dad ever.
Will’s gentle spirit and loving nature touched many hearts. Those who loved him are left with holes in their lives, his big warm smile forever etched in their memories. He was an example for all, enduring hardships with a smile and showing gratitude at every turn. A blessing to all who knew him, Will reminds us of both life’s fragility and its power for good.
Will leaves behind a family who loved him dearly. He is survived by his cherished son, Sebastian MacKenzie; sisters, Jona Finstad and Michelle Schott; her husband, Duke; his brother, Michael David Lewis, and his wife, Tonya; his uncle, Scott MacKenzie, and his wife, Julie; his grandmom, Judy MacKenzie; and his best friend Joe Hardt. He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Terry Lynn MacKenzie; his granny, Jonell Latham; grandfathers Roy H. MacKenzie and Cotton Latham; and his sister, Heather Lewis.
Though Will’s absence leaves many with hearts that ache, we find comfort in the memory of his ever-present smile and loving spirit. Our faith assures us he is now in the arms of Jesus, walking whole and free.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in his honor to remember a life well lived—one marked by courage, love, and enduring faith.
Arrangements were entrusted to Lawson Funeral Home 254-435-2792.
