William (Bill) Shields, Jr

August 12, 1947 — August 8, 2016

William Ray (Bill) Shields, Jr., age 68, of Clifton, entered heaven on August 8, 2016, at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 13, 2016, in the Lawson Funeral Home Chapel in Meridian. Richard Norton officiating.

He was born to Ray and Christine Shields on August 12, 1947, in Odessa, Texas. The family moved to the Lake Whitney area in 1957 and he graduated from Meridian High School in 1965. In 1969, he married Sandra Jackson and from that union a daughter, Natalie Renee, was born. In September of 1976, he married Ellen Sommerfeld and they had 2 daughters, Nikki and Rebecca.

Bill was an antique collector and was co-founder of the Laguna Park Flea Market. There wasn't anything he couldn't sell to anyone. His love for sports in high school led him to try out for the Houston Astros as a pitcher. The 2 things he loved the most, besides his family, were being outdoors hunting and fireworks. He sold fireworks every 4th of July and Christmas for almost 50 years in Laguna Park. Bill enjoyed being out on the Greenwade Ranch hunting and fishing with his kids, grandkids, sons-in-law, nephew and numerous hunting buddies. If he wasn't at home, he was in the pasture on his 4 wheeler. When he wasn't in the pasture, he was chauffeuring around Ellen on their "ole blue" motorcycle.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen (Sommerfled) Shields, of Clifton; daughters, Nikki Michaud and husband, Jeffrey, of Clifton, Rebecca Church and husband, Chad, of Laguna Park and Natalie Turner and husband, Vernon, of Granbury; grandchildren, Brady and Logan Michaud, McKenna, Mattelyn and Micah Church, Courtney Turner and numerous other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Christine Shields, a brother, Ronnie Shields, a grandson, Michael Church and a niece, Dana Jorgenson.

Memorials may be made to Central Texas Senior Ministry, 501 West Waco Drive, Waco, Texas, 76707.
