Gwendolyn Flatt Coffelt

January 5, 1942 — March 3, 2023

Clifton, Texas

Gwendolyn Flatt Coffelt was born on January 5th, 1942 to Cortis Flatt and Iola Newton. She was the youngest of 7 children that were raised in Star, Texas later moving to Meridian, Texas where she finished school at Meridian High School. Gwen married her High School sweetheart Henry Rex Coffelt on March 4th, 1964 in Dallas, Texas.

Gwen was a homemaker that was very involved in the Hico Church of Christ. She spent many hours serving in various capacities throughout the church. She especially took an interest in ministering to the elder widows and the children in the Church. Gwen loved teaching children's bible school to all different ages.

Rex and Gwen spent many years opening their home to numerous Foster children. They housed children from as young as a few days old to high schoolers. Many of these children would stay for extended periods of time, benefitting from Gwen’s loving and nurturing personality as well as her love of Christ.

Gwen loved to spend time with her sisters and the rest of her family. She had a mischievous sense of humor and made all those around her laugh with her jokes. She loved to garden, craft, play games, and take her grandkids on picnics in the park. If she wasn’t outside enjoying the beautiful weather she could be found watching Hallmark movies or writing poems and stories for her family.

Although Gwen had struggled with health in the past few years, her family rejoices in knowing that she was made whole again at 2:01 am on March 3rd 2023.

Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, and their spouses except for, Bonnie Flatt and Nell Flatt who are left to remember her.

Left to honor Gwen’s memory are her husband Rex Coffelt, daughter Tami Coffelt Burch of Woodway, son Brad Coffelt and Missy Coffelt of Whitney, grandchildren: Jessika and Brandon Wohleb of Whitney, Krista and Roy Wright of McGregor, Wyatt and Hannah Burch of Crawford, Brody Coffelt and Brizzy Bryars of Whitney, Emily Burch of Crawford, Cooper Coffelt of Whitney, and Great Grandchildren: Braden, Rylla and Brekken Wohleb, Hadley and Eli Burch, and soon to be Riggs Wright.
