Jon Carter Melton

January 4, 1969 — December 15, 2020

Walnut Springs, Texas

Jon Carter Melton, 51, formerly of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away from this life at his home in Walnut Springs, Texas on December 15, 2020. He was born on January 4, 1969 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Anne Condren McKenzie and Charles Carter Melton.

Jon attended Southside High School in Fort Smith and worked a variety of jobs during his life; he was always known as a dedicated, hardworking man who made sure the job was done correctly. Jon was an avid collector of arrow heads, sports memorabilia and stones of any type. The thrill of the search was what he enjoyed most about collecting. In his younger years, he was an active fisherman who never missed a chance to get out and catch a fish. Jon had a big heart for animals and never met a dog he didn’t like.

Jon is survived by his close friend, Misty Gibson, of Walnut Springs, TX; his mother, Anne McKenzie, of Fort Smith; his father, Charles C. Melton, of Mountain Home; his siblings, Charles (Paula) Melton of Dover, Chris Melton of Booneville, and Kim Dooly Hayes of Fort Smith; nieces Tayler Lynch (Isaac) of Yellville and Cadence Melton of Dover; and nephews Connar Melton of Fort Smith, Cameron Hayes of Fort Smith, Elijah West of Dover, Jaxon and Archer Lynch of Yellville, as well as children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Jon is preceded in death by his grandparents King and Johnnye Nelson Condren and Charles R. and Nell Carter Melton; his aunt, Pat Condren Garner; and great-nephew Benson Lynch.

Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Lawson Funeral Home of Meridian, Texas. Memorial service to be held at a later date by the family. We look forward to the day that we can see Jon and all our family once again and sing the praises of our Lord together.

Memorial contributions can be made to any local animal shelter or a charity of your choice.
