Richard Neal Derrick

Richard Neal Derrick, 62, of Granbury, TX, passed away, Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at Lake Granbury Medical Center. A viewing for anyone who wishes to pay their respects will be held at Lawson Funeral Home on Friday, April 10, 2020 from 9 AM to 3 PM. Graveside services will follow at Fulton Cemetery in Iredell, TX on April 10, 2020, at 4 PM.

Richard was born on December 13, 1957 in Jefferson, TX to Barbara Segrest Derrick and Jimmy Neal Derrick. Richard married DeAnne Timms Derrick in Glen Rose, TX and they shared their lives together for 31 years. Richard was trained to be a brick mason at an early age by his beloved stepfather, C.A. Burris. He continued this trade for many years, and those who worked with him, said he was the best mason they had ever seen. He was proud of his masonry skills and had one of his homes featured in Southern Living Magazine. When building got slow in 2001, Richard took a maintenance position at Kopperl ISD. Richard worked at Kopperl Schools for 14 years and Grandview ISD for an additional three years before his retirement in January 2020.

Richard is survived by his wife DeAnne Derrick of Granbury, TX, daughter, Dayna Fain and her husband, Kody Fain and their son Harrison Fain of Eastland, TX; his son Neal Derrick and his son Jordan Derrick and daughter Presley Derrick of Springdale, AR; his sister Kathy Stasey and husband, Joe Stasey, of Paluxy, TX; and a host of other beloved family. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy Derrick and Barbara Burris, his stepfather, C.A. Burris, his precious son, Chad Derrick, and his sister, Karen Faulkner.

For those who knew Richard, you would agree that he was more than special. He had a love for children and enjoyed his time with the school district more than we can describe. He loved to make people laugh and smile. If he was your friend, you could count on him anytime, day or night.

Richard had a deep and unconditional love for his family and enjoyed spending time with them more than anything else. The hole that is left in their hearts will remain forever. He will be missed beyond words. In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35.  Richard believed that giving was the biggest blessing of all.
